earthing and its health benefits
WHAT IS EARTHING
earthing or grounding is defined as placing one's bare feet on the ground whether it be dirt, grass, sand or concrete (especially when humid or wet). when you ground to the electron-enriched earth, an improved balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system occurs.
the earth is a natural source of electrons and subtle electrical fields, which are essential for proper functioning of immune systems, circulation, synchronization of biorhythms and other physiological processes and may actually be the most effective, essential, least expensive, and easiest to attain antioxidant.
THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF EARTHING
- reduces inflammation
- helps reduce stress hormones
- can help you sleep better
- can increase energy levels
- can help lower pain (anders has literally felt this when he had a bad knee a couple years ago, after walking on the beach everyday the pain disappeared)
- improved digestion
- improved immune function
- improved blood circulation, and blood pressure
- helps to calm the adrenal system
WHY I STARTED EARTHING EVERY DAY
earthing is something i learned about from my naturopath in 2011 when i moved back to the sunshine coast from melbourne. at first i was like ... what....? but my health was in the worst state it had ever been (mentally and physically) and i was desperate to try anything to start feeling better.
during one of my fortnightly visits to my naturopath she suggested i make it a priority to start “earthing” every day (on top of the incredible regime she designed for me). she explained all the benefits and how it could help with my anxiety and nervous system, so i started walking barefoot on the beach or in the park every day. and now it has become a daily practice for anders and i. i immediately feel the benefits after a bad or stressful day or if i am feeling sick or flat. after a walk on the beach and a swim in the ocean my body and mind feel rejuvenated.
i wish i knew about this during my years living in brisbane and melbourne. i would have made more of an effort to take my shoes off and go lay in the park every day.
