date day in new york: the met and balthazar
the other day anders and i woke up and decided to go on a date day! we realised we've been here in new york for over a week now and haven't had a day just us two since we arrived. so we got ready and made our way to the met museum where we spent the morning wandering through and admiring everything. we moved from the ancient egyptian tombs, the temple of dendur to medieval, european sculpture and decorative arts before ending our first visit with modern and contemporary art where some of my favourite artists' work resides. it was so special to see pieces from jackson pollock, picasso, joan miro and modigliani. the met was incredible! going to museums is one of my favourite things to do when travelling... i love to soak up the culture and history. before you leave the met, i highly recommend wandering through the gift shop! whenever i visit any museum i always buy prints and postcards as souvenirs and frame them when i get home.
after the met we ordered an uber back to soho because we had to return a few things there. balthazar restaurant and bakery were just around the corner from where we were. by this point it was 3 in the afternoon and as we walked into balthazar i was pleasantly surprised to see it was still buzzing! i immediately fell in love with the old french bistro charm. there was a big vase of cherry blossoms which are in season at the moment. lucky for us lunch was still being served and we were sat in a cosy booth near the window straight away. i was craving steak frites which is what i ordered, anders got a delicious lamb and caramelised onion sandwich and we shared a creme brulee for dessert. it was exactly what we needed after a big day. i was a little worried balthazar would be a brutal tourist zone but there were loads of new york characters wining and dining there. everywhere we sit and spend time in new york, people watching is so much fun.
