my favourite treat to make whenever i'm in france
i wanted to share one of my favourite treats i have every time i am in france. i learnt it from my grandma. she makes it for me when i visit her in provence. the reason it's only when i am france is because it involves a french white cheese called "fromage blanc" which is impossible to find in australia, i might need to learn to make my own?? unless someone knows where i can find it?
fromage blanc originates in the north of france and belgium. it is similar to cream cheese, but has a much lower fat content. the consistency is similar to yoghurt/sour cream and the flavour is very mild and so tasty. it's really easy to find an organic fromage blanc in any french supermarket and can come from either cows, goats or sheeps milk. it can be served with fresh fruit, jams/preserves OR my favourite of all, chestnut spread, also known as crème de marrons (which, if you look hard enough you can find in australia!)
to prepare, add a few big spoonfuls of fromage blanc into a bowl, then a nice little spoon or two of chestnut spread and eat!
